Discuss and explore feminism in a fun, empowering environment. Learn how equal treatment of women in society will (obviously) better women’s lives, and men's as well.  Open to anyone that wants to explore feminism.  Meet with Sherry the LAST SUNDAY of every month at 2pm  (Authors do not usually attend VB Reads) –Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich “They didn’t ask to be remembered,” Pulitzer Prize-winning author Laurel Ulrich wrote in 1976 about the pious women of colonial New England. And then she added a phrase that has since gained widespread currency: “Well-behaved women seldom make history.” Today those words appear almost everywhere—on T-shirts, mugs, bumper stickers, plaques, greeting cards, and more. But what do they really mean? In this engrossing volume, Laurel Ulrich goes far beyond the slogan she inadvertently created and explores what it means to make history.
Start: 4:00 pm
War weary after writing a book about Iraq, Peter Laufer joked to an audience (right here at Village Books!) that his next book would be about butterflies. The result: an invitation to a Nicaraguan butterfly preserve and a book that covers not only the beauty and magic of butterflies, but also takes unpredictable turns into the high-stakes realms of organized crime, ecological devastation, species depletion, natural history museum integrity, and chaos theory. Set in locales throughout the Americas and beyond, this fascinating book takes us into a behind-the-scenes world sure to alter our view of butterflies forever.
