Julie Weston grew up in Kellogg, Idaho, where her home was a long block from the entrance to the notorious Bunker Hill Mine and next door to the hospital where her father doctored the miners and other townspeople. During a bitter labor strike, Weston worked after school for a local lawyer who represented a new union. Weston left Kellogg knowing she would become a lawyer, which she did. This rich mix of history and memory is the story of that place and how the mountains, mines, and people there shaped her. Mary Clearman Blew, author of All but the Waltz, says “Weston’s insights are unforgettable; her writing is wonderful.”
