COME CELEBRATE AUSTRALIA MONTH WITH THIS EXCITING KIDS EVENT! INCLUDES UNDERWATER VIDEO! Have you ever wondered if dragons still exist? Australian Aboriginal people believe that the Rainbow Serpent created the world.  Anthropologists suggest that the origins of the Rainbow Serpent might be a Leafy Sea Dragon. Author and Illustrator, Jacqui Stanley is a passionate diver and underwater photographer. She will show fabulous underwater videos of her encounters with the rare and bizarre sea dragons found only off the coast of South Australia in the Great Southern Ocean, the inspiration for her book: “The Dragons of Kangaroo Island.” Jacqui will demonstrate the ancient aboriginal art of dot painting and provide templates of sea creatures found only beneath Australian waters.
Start: 4:00 pm
Village Books will host a poetry reading celebrating Oregon’s late poet laureate, William Stafford.  One of the best-known and loved American poets, Stafford served as Poetry Consultant to the Library of Congress, received the National Book Award for Traveling Through the Dark, and taught for many years at Lewis & Clark College in Portland. He grew up in Kansas, was a conscientious objector during World War II, and was widely admired for his generosity.  Bellingham poet, Jim Bertolino, will host.
