A Japanese American pediatrician flees his ruined reputation to care for his demented mother and her dilapidated orchard.  When he joins the local volunteer fire department, he becomes entwined in the mystery of a phantom arsonist and the dark secrets of the Japanese American internment and his own unusual heritage.  Craig Danner won the 2002 PNBA award for his first novel, Himalayan Dhaba, and lives with his wife and two sons in rural Oregon.
