At 26, after a lover threatens to kill her, Cara Lopez Lee runs away to Alaska. In the Last Frontier, she lands in a love triangle with two alcoholics: Sean the martial artist and Chance the paraglider pilot. Nine years later, sick of love, she runs again, to backpack the world alone. They Only Eat Their Husbands is a memoir of her yearlong trek, against a backdrop of reflections on her life and loves in Alaska. Cara Lopez Lee is the creator the Girls Trek Too blog and workshop, which encourages other women to approach life as an adventure. “Adventure is not about vacations or danger,” Cara says. “Adventure asks you to more deeply explore the world you travel in, and the world that travels in you.” She has explored Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and most of the 50 United States. Cara is currently writing a historical novel. When she’s not writing, traveling, or taking photos, she hikes, skis, and dances the Lindy Hop. In 2003, she got married at an active volcano in Costa Rica. She and her husband survived both dangers and now live in Denver.
