This year's Banned Books Week, September 24 - 30, is celebrating diversity. (Click here for selection of books by diverse authors or containing diverse content that have been frequentlychallenged and/or banned.)
Come and celebrate the "fREADom" to read whatever we want! While diversity is seldom given as a reason for a challenge, it seems, in fact, to be an underlying and unspoken factor. These challenged works are often about people and issues which include LGBTQIA, people of color, gender diversity, people with disabilities, and ethnic, cultural, and religious minorities—people or issues that, perhaps, challengers would prefer not to consider.
We hope you'll join us in celebrating Banned Books Week, including our Banned Books Week Read-In in Fairhaven and Scavenger Hunt in Lynden and Fairhaven. Help us bring attention to all the books, from every genre, that face censorship each year. Keep an eye on our website for more details. For more information, visit BannedBooksWeek.org.
