About Healer
Physician and novelist Carol Cassella follows her national bestselling debut, Oxygen, with a compelling work that grapples with the issues affecting families in the wake of this economic recession. Cassella focuses on developing tensions between a husband and wife and their teenage daughter as they begin to lose everything they have taken for granted—financial security, a beautiful home, and social status.  They must remake their lives, as the wife (a trained physician who’s never used her medical degree) re-learns medicine in rural Washington.  Amidst the marital upheaval, they must help their daughter cope with painful adjustments, face the hard truths that their wealth had previously masked, and redefine their marriage in the context of love and acceptance of the new reality.

As in her previous novel, Oxygen—which the Denver Post called “a sparkling literary work”—Cassella has crafted a compelling story that blends graceful writing with persuasive storytelling. With its clear-eyed depiction of the modern American family in crisis and the challenges that doctors face on a daily basis, Healer is a compulsively readable work of great compassion and insight and is sure to resonate with readers.
