A Country Called Home– Winner of the 2009 PEN Center USA Literary Award in Fiction!

From the author of the acclaimed memoir In the Wilderness comes a luminous novel, an extraordinary story of hope and idealism, madness and love, which is a testament to the power of family—the family we are born to and the family we create.  It “feels like a classic…beautifully written with complex, flawed characters and an unpredictable and fascinating plot. An engrossing, sometimes heartbreaking read with a leavening of hopefulness…not to be missed." -Bookreporter

Kim Barnes is the author of two memoirs and two novels, most recently A Country Called Home, which was named a best book of 2008 by The Washington Post, Kansas City Star, and The Oregonian, and received the 2009 PEN Center USA Literary Award in Fiction.  She is a recipient of the PEN/Jerard Fund Award for an emerging woman writer of nonfiction, and her first memoir, In the Wilderness, was nominated for the 1997 Pulitzer Prize.  Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in a number of journals and anthologies, including MORE, O Magazine, Fourth Genre, The Georgia Review, Shenandoah, and the Pushcart Prize Anthology.
