This memoir recreates the struggles of a woman who came of age in the 60s and is a guidebook for the process of finding our lost selves—the "us" we've given away in order to feel safe and find love. It takes the reader from 1944 to the present, with each chapter beginning with a short letter to the child Nancy was at that time. A workbook at the end provides questions that an individual or book club would find invaluable in embarking on their own journey "home."
Nancy's professional resume includes her early career as a contributing journalist for the New York Times Magazine and Cosmopolitan, a second career as a script writer for TV shows and movies; and developer of feature films for Paramount, Fox, and Disney. She has taught screen writing at UCLA, as well as writing courses at USC and in the Seattle Community College system. But it is her experiences as a child, a daughter, a survivor of 2 failed marriages, a mother, and a bravely honest woman that illuminate most her book and workshop.
