Celebrate fresh, local food with 3 events at 3 different Bellingham venues. Shannon Borg and Harley Soltes, author and photographer respectively of Chefs on the Farm: Recipes & Inspiration from the Quillisascut Farm School of the Domestic Arts are coming to town. Bring your taste buds and your questions and join event co-sponsors Village Books, Sustainable Connections, The Bellingham Farmer's Market, and Pastazza in welcoming them!
With the rising interest in organic and locally grown food, there is also an increasing interest in connecting the farm to the table. Chefs on the Farm describes the seasonal workings of Quillisascut Goat Cheese Farm, a small, family-run business in northeastern Washington State. There, owners Lora Lea and Rick Misterly started a "Farm School for the Domestic Arts" where every summer, professional chefs, culinary students, food writers, and others live and work on the farm. Cooking only with ingredients they find on the farm, students learn to be connected to the food they work with. Chefs on the Farm is the perfect "treat" for foodies, organic gardeners, cookbook addicts, and sustainable practitioners alike.

The Farmer's Market is thrilled to kick-off their 2009 Chefs at the Market series with an event centered on recipes from Chefs on the Farm. Beginning on the hours of 11, 12, and 1, three local chefs will create recipes from the book using local ingredients. Author Shannon Borg and photographer Harley Soltes will be on hand to talk about the book, answer questions, and sign copies. Village Books will provide copies of the book for purchase at the Market.

Join Shannon Borg (author) & Harley Soltes (photographer) for an author event including a slide show. Author Shannon Borg is a published poet with a PhD in poetry and literature. She writes regularly about travel, food, and wine in the Pacific Northwest, and is certified by the International Sommelier Guild. Award-winning photographer Harley Soltes worked for the Seattle Times for 22 years on international, domestic, and regional photo assignments. A freelancer photojournalist since 2005, he has photographed stories for numerous magazines while also running a farm in Kingston.
