Richard lived his formative years in the East Bay Area before moving to a small farm. in the shadow of Mt Rainier. He traveled to Bellingham one day and never left. He has never driven a taxi cab in New York city.
This little book surprised me. I didn't think I would enjoy a collection of two page short stories, but turns out I was throughly engaged with these short short stories. A good bathroom reader and a fun book to share with your friends.
I occasionally enjoy books that are somewhat off the beaten path. A classic favorite of mine is The Master and Margarita written during the Soviet crackdown of the 1930's and, of course, suppressed. The story is complex and rather magical but a relief from the mundane.
This is a rather long chaotic tale full of metaphor and archetypal symbolism, but never boring or pretentious. Murakami explores the state of Japanese society and influence of Western pop culture. You'll either love this book or walk away from it as fast as you can. Just give it a chance.
