In 2002, John Scurlock embarked on a nine-year quest to fly and photograph every corner of the North Cascade Range in winter. The images he captured from his home-built airplane provide a breathtaking vision of one of America's most magnificent mountain ranges in its most beautiful, dramatic, and savage season.
Pilot and photographer John Scurlock is a Michigan native who came to the West Coast in 1976. He has conducted aerial photography of mountains and glaciers across western North America, from California to Alaska to the Canadian and US Rockies. His images have inspired skiers and climbers, and have appeared in numerous books and magazines. His book, Snow & Spire: Flights to Winter in the North Cascade Range, was published by Wolverine Publishing in November, 2011. He resides along the Skagit River near Rockport, Washington, along with his seven cats.
