Join family therapist Laura Heck for a workshop for teens and parents entitled "Media Literacy for Teens: Building Self-Esteem by Deconstructing Harmful Media Images."
Media literacy education encourages teens and parents to analyze, evaluate and create meaning out of mass media and pop culture. Teens are bombarded with media violence, gender and racial stereotypes, the sexualization of children, and misrepresented and images of teenage life. Through critical thinking skills, teens can learn to deconstruct harmful media images for themselves.
