In 1896 William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones published an illustrated edition of The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer, one of the greatest British storytellers. Depicted in this illustration is a passionate kiss between Troilus and Criseyde, a pair of tragic lovers whose story ended abruptly during the Siege of Troy.
