Chase is a graduate of WWU where he earned two BAs in Literature and Creative Writing, as well as a minor in Film Studies. When he’s not devouring massive and dark novels (his favorite type of book to read), he can be found playing video games, hiking, at the Pickford, or shopping for himself at Village Books.
The poems within Parker’s second collection of poetry are astonishing and resounding, discussing the issues in today’s ongoing discussions of racism and sexism. Including many references to pop culture (including the queen Beyonce herself), the poems are entirely accessible and enjoyable, while also deeply personal, gorgeous and hilarious.
Trust me, you won’t regret this deeply moving and hysterical memoir. Jacobson (of Broad City fame) is equal parts hilarious and serious in this book, giving readers insight into how her creative process works. Such a fun and beautiful read!
An absolutely devastating book that will stick with you forever. The gorgeous and overwhelming writing of Yanagihara helps convey the utter devastation of the book. If you’re looking for a book to absolutely destroy your perception of the world, this is the one.
I have a thing for dark and beautiful books, and Katherine Dunn’s Geek Love is no exception. Dunn captures the disgusting nature of the world in a fatalistic yet strangely uplifting way, suggesting that, while the world can be complex and messy, there is still beauty in it.
One of King’s most popular (yet highly underrated) books is just as powerful and important as it was when it originally was published. While not having the style King later became known for, the utter emotional impact this book had on me was astonishing. The adaptations, while good, do not do this book the justice it deserves.
I will say, I'm not a huge fan of this particular book. Maas wrote this when she was only sixteen, and while the story is interesting and exciting, it doesn't nearly represent just how insane and terrific the rest of the series is. This book is surprisingly dark and brutal, with equal parts romance, action and suspense. Trust me, if you can finish this book, the rest of the series is very much worth it.
