After President Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, taking an important step towards closing the wage gap between men and women, Carolyne Wright and co-editors were inspired to create this ground-breaking anthology of poems by 120 women in over 60 occupations, giving voice to working women world-wide. Raising Lilly Ledbetter ventures into workplaces, from cotton rows to corner offices, revealing not just inequalities but the increasing range of women's employment. Lead editor Wright, publisher Christine Holbert, and other contributors will join us for a reading and signing.
Carolyne Wright is the author of nine books of poetry, four volumes of poetry in translation from Spanish and Bengali, and a collection of essays. After living in Chile, Brasil, India and Bangladesh on fellowships, and teaching as a visiting poet at colleges and universities around the U.S., Wright returned to her native Seattle in 2005 and teaches for the Whidbey Writers Workshop MFA Program and at Hugo House. She is a contributing editor for the Pushcart Prizes and a senior editor for Lost Horse Press.
