Village Books and WCC Community and Continuing Education have established a writing instruction collaboration called Chuckanut Writers. Writing classes, seminars, and conferences will inspire and encourage writers at all stages of their writing journey.

Scenes! Scenes are the building blocks of a story. In this productive class, we'll write fast and furious, generating a list of scenes to flesh out your memoir. Both the "100 Word List" and the "And then…" exercises will create scene titles to populate your story arc. You'll leave class with the knowledge of the basic scene structure and many new ideas for crafting scenes at your leisure. Nancy Canyon, MFA, is an award-winning writer and the author of Celia's Heaven (novel) and Saltwater (poetry). She is currently pitching her memoir, STRUCK: A Season on a Fire Lookout.

As part of the tenth annual Washington Memoir Writing Month, this series of workshops will help you along the way as you turn your memories into memoir. The goal for each writer is 1,666 words every day. At the end of September you will have 50,000 words: a book. You will have given shape and voice to the stories and adventures you have always wanted to share, the stories your readers want to hear. These workshops, all taught or led by experienced memoir writers and teachers, can be taken as a whole, or you can select from the individual workshops to suit your needs and schedule. Click here for the entire series!

Instructor: Nancy Canyon. There is one session in this online class. Class meets Wednesday, September 11 from 5:30PM-7:00pm, and is $29.
