Village Books and WCC Community and Continuing Education have established a writing instruction collaboration called Chuckanut Writers. Writing classes, seminars, and conferences will inspire and encourage writers at all stages of their writing journey.

This is an intermediate-level course for writers who have begun or are ready to begin a book-length memoir. We will cover scene selection, structure, and other mechanics, and the last two classes will be dedicated to publication options, including the path to traditional publication. Upon completing this course, students will understand how to outline, compose, revise, and (after much revision) submit a full memoir manuscript for publication. Anne is a teacher, editor, and author of the memoir Navel Gazing: One Woman's Quest for a Size Normal.Anne has years of experience coaching, tutoring, and teaching writers of all ages. Anne has a master's in Creative Nonfiction from City University in London, where she moved after college to be with a boy (oldest story in the book). Previously, Anne earned her bachelor's in English Literature from Washington University in St. Louis. Anne’s first memoir, Navel Gazing: One Woman's Quest for a Size Normal, was published by Faber & Faber in 2013; her second book is currently in the revision stage.

Instructor: Annie Putnam. Class meets Mondays and Wednesdays, January 31-February 16, from 6:00-8:00pm, and is $189; click to register. To see the full listing of current Chuckanut Writers classes, click here
