October, 1941. Daily bombing raids have made it perilous to move about London, yet among the Londoners "doing their bit” to aid the war effort are fleet-footed boys who run messages for government offices while dodging debris and aerial raids. On one such errand, a young runner witnesses a murder destined to send shock waves through the secret war plans of British and Free French agents. It will take psychologist and investigator Maisie Dobbs to prove the truth of the frightened boy's story and unravel the geopolitical significance of the killing.
From the New York Times bestselling author Jacqueline Winspear comes the 16th novel in the Maisie Dobbs series. As Europe bends under the weight of German might, Maisie's discoveries could have disastrous effects in this compelling installment in what Tom Nolan of The Wall Street Journal says is a "series that seems to get better with every entry."
