In Whiteness is Not an Ancestor, twelve white women from the US, Canada, and UK write about whiteness in their lives and family histories influenced by immigration, colonialism, slavery, and war. Themes explored include innocence, grief, privilege, race, and belonging.
Lisa Iversen is Director of the Center for Ancestral Blueprints and CAB Publishing based in Bellingham. She stewarded the writing project resulting in this anthology and is the author of the book Ancestral Blueprints: Revealing Invisible Truths in America's Soul.
Summer Starr is a workshop facilitator, healer, poet, and works in the non-profit sector. She grew up in Blaine, WA on a small family farm and returned to the northwest after working on issues related to poverty in India, Ghana and Kenya for many years. She has a master's degree in International Affairs and is on the board of Stillpoint at Beckside, an inclusive spirituality center rooted in the Christian contemplative tradition. She is a speaker for the National Alliance on Mental Illness about her experiences with bipolar disorder. She has two self-published books of poetry, Wild Lotus Living (December 2016) and Into the Flames (December 2019).
Christina Greené, a first born German, moved to Bellingham in 1999. She works as a Craniosacral Therapist, and is passionate about the human body, the healing arts, and trauma therapy. She has been fortunate to have access to her family history through living relatives, and her writing is informed by this history through the lens of her embodiment practices.
Moderator Dr. Tracey Pyscher is an Associate Professor of Secondary Education at Western Washington University. She researches and writes about the lives of children and youth who have experienced domestic violence and their challenging experiences in public schools. Her work has appeared in academic journals like the Bank Street Journal Occasional Paper Series, Cultural Studies↔Critical Methodologies, Equity & Excellence in Education, and International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education.
