Join us in the Readings Gallery as we ring in 2022 with a workshop on the value and practice of mindfulness with Tim Burnett.

Curious about mindfulness? Led by the Executive Director of Mindfulness Northwest, Tim Burnett, this one-hour interactive presentation will introduce you to the research behind mindfulness and how it can help us live more peaceful and fulfilled lives. You'll leave with a handout and a tool kit of simple practices to use at work and home. 

This participatory, practical introductory class includes: Definitions and benefits of mindfulness, a helpful handout summarizing the benefits and practices of mindfulness, body and breath awareness practices, group dialogue and small group discussion, and suggestions on resources for ongoing practice and how to apply mindfulness at work and home. Village Books will also have a large selection of books on hand that center on the theme of mindfulness practice.

Based on the 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, which has been shown to reduce chronic pain and boost the immune system, address painful mental states like depression and anxiety, minimize emotional reactivity and promote well-being, and increase flexible attention and sharpen mental focus.

Tim Burnett has been teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) since 2010, and practicing meditation since 1986. He is certified to teach MBSR by the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School; certified to teach Mindful Self-Compassion by the Center for Mindful Self Compassion; and certified to teach Compassion Cultivation Training by the Center for the Compassion and Altruism Research and Education at Stanford University.
