In October 2005, mummified remains of a WW II aviator were discovered entombed within Mendel Glacier in California's Kings Canyon National Park. Part of a four-man crew, the "Frozen Airman" discovery created a media storm and a mystery that drew author Peter Stekel to investigate. Through meticulous research, interviews, and mountaineering trips to the site, Stekel uncovered the Airman’s story, finding bad weather, bad luck, empty graves, and misguided recovery efforts.

In 2007, the unimaginable happened again when Stekel discovered a second body in the glacier. Final Flight is a gripping account - mystery, history, and personal journey - uncovering the truth of what happened on November 18, 1942.

Peter Stekel has hiked in the Sierra Nevada since he was 12 years old. That is a long time, but not nearly long enough. He is also the author of Best Hikes Near Seattle.
