Resolutions: Mini Workshops to Jumpstart Your New Year
Need a boost to your New Year? Ready to make 2017 your best year ever? Join us Sat., Jan. 7 from 11am-4pm in the Readings Gallery at Village Books for our annual “Resolutions,” a day devoted to starting the year right. From 11am-4pm, on the hour, we’ll feature local experts presenting mini-workshops on topics ranging from creating a better relationship with time, to developing mindfulness in our lives, to making fitness goals and making goals for sustainability. Come to one workshop or several, and bring your questions, ideas, and a snack too. No tickets or registration needed. Participants will receive 10% off recommended Resolutions-related books, that day only. Here is the line-up:

Creating a Better Relationship with Time in 2017
How we spend our time is how we spend our lives. Yet it can feel like time is the enemy, chasing us, leaving us behind, dragging its feet, or unexpectedly speeding up and slowing down. Clutter-clearing expert Carolyn Koehnline will share a wide array of strategies to help you engage with time in a more flexible, friendly and satisfying way.
Carolyn Koehnline is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and has been in private practice at the F Street Natural Health Clinic in Bellingham for over twenty years. She is also a clutter-clearing instructor and coach and a certified journal therapist.

Meeting the New Year with Mindfulness
Join local mindfulness practitioner Tim Burnett, Executive Director of Mindfulness Northwest, for an exploration of mindfulness practices that promote awareness and well being. We will discuss the origins of mindfulness, touch on stress physiology, and explore how mindfulness practices can help us engage in our relationship to experience, reducing stress and enhancing well being. Simple practices of breathing and mindful movement will support our discussion as we explore mindfulness from the inside out.
Mindfulness teacher Tim Burnett has been practicing meditation for 25 years. He is knowledgeable about mindfulness from its traditional Buddhist origins into its contemporary applications in medicine and psychology. Certified to teach several mindfulness and compassion courses, Tim founded the local non-profit Mindfulness Northwest in 2011 and offers classes, workshops, and retreats in mindfulness in Bellingham, Skagit Country, and Seattle. Tim is also a fully authorized teacher of Soto Zen Buddhism.
