A Day Dedicated to Supporting Small Businesses and Independent Bookstores Accross the Country
Village Books and Paper Dreams joins forces with independent businesses nationwide to mark Small Business Saturday and Indies First on Saturday, November 30, a day dedicated to supporting the local businesses that help create jobs, boost the economy, and preserve neighborhoods.
Small Business Saturday is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving as a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, encouraging holiday shoppers to patronize brick-and-mortar businesses that are local. Indies First is the national campaign of activities and events in support of independent bookstores that takes place on Small Business Saturday. Independent bookstores host authors as honorary booksellers to help handsell their favorite titles and sign books.
Fairhaven: We'll have two celebrated local authors on hand to sign copies of their books and talk about THEIR favorite reads this season.
From 11am-noon Spencer Ellsworth, author of The Great Faerie Strike will join us. Local memoirist, Sean Dwyer, will be here from noon-1pm to sign copies of his new memior, The Quest for Tears. Both of these titles will make great gifts this season!
Events like Indies First underscore how small, local businesses contribute to a community's cultural experiences. But there are also significant economic impacts. According to the American Independent Business Alliance: "Independent retailers return to their community more than three times as much money per dollar of sales than do chain competitors." Thanks for thinking local!
