Village Books and Paper Dreams joins forces with independent businesses nationwide to mark Small Business Saturday and Indies First on Saturday, November 26, a day dedicated to supporting the local businesses that help create jobs, boost the economy, and preserve neighborhoods.

Small Business Saturday is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving as a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, encouraging holiday shoppers to patronize brick-and-mortar businesses that are local. Indies First is the national campaign of activities and events in support of independent bookstores that takes place on Small Business Saturday.

Events like Indies First underscore how small, local businesses contribute to a community's cultural experiences. But there are also significant economic impacts. According to the American Independent Business Alliance: "Independent retailers return to their community more than three times as much money per dollar of sales than do chain competitors." Thanks for thinking local!

We'll have two local authors on hand at our Fairhaven location to talk about their books and share some of their favorite recommendations as well!

11am-12pm: Julie Anna Blank will be signing her new children's book, Hanukkah in Little Havana.
After a childhood of moving every few years, Julie Anna Blank has enjoyed staying put in her Pacific Northwest home of 30 years, where she is a school librarian. She and her husband hit the road for van life adventures in their Sprinter, most often to visit their two grown sons. Having been a storyteller all her life, Julie is thrilled to see her words in print. Hanukkah in Little Havana is her first published children's book.

1- 2pm: Gail Noble-Sanderson will be on hand to discuss her brand new book, The Book of RulesGail Noble-Sanderson is the award-winning author of the historical fiction series, The Lavender Meuse Trilogy. She lives in Washington State with her husband, their dog Mandy, three cats and a flock of chickens. Gail retired from her profession as a Speech-Language Pathologist to pursue her passion for writing.

At our Lynden location, we're pleased to welcome Jes Hart Stone, another celebrated local author!

1-2pm: Jes Hart Stone will sign copies of her brand new novel, Turbulent Waters: A Pacific NW Thriller! Jes is a blue water sailor and author of the popular guide to traveling with pets, Doggy on Deck: Life at Sea with a Salty Dog. Her novels include Blood on a Blue Moon: A Sheaffer Blue Mystery and The Last Outrageous Woman. Jes collects fountain pens and lives by the sea.
