Following their dreams on a tight budget, Wendy Hinman and Garth Wilcox cruised the Pacific on a 31-foot boat for seven years. They entrusted their lives to a boat that fit their budget better than Garth's large frame and discovered that teamwork and a sense of humor were more important than many so-called "necessities" as they faced many "character-building" opportunities. Wendy Hinman will share stories and photos from their 34,000-mile Pacific odyssey. Wendy Hinman is the author of
Tightwads on the Loose, a lighthearted tale about their seven year voyage. Books will be available for sale at the event.
Wendy Hinman's stories have appeared in a variety of publications, especially ones that sailors like to read. One of them was published in the anthology,
We Came to Say, and another won a Solas Traveler’s Tales award for best travel writing. Even after 34,000 miles, she looks forward to her next adventure with her husband, Garth, to whom she's still married and happens to like. Wendy Hinman inspires others to pursue their dreams through her presentations. She has presented at the Pacific Northwest Writers Conferences, Seattle Boat Shows, Strictly Sail, Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival and Spring Symposia, Women in Boating Seminars, as well as yacht clubs and private functions.
