Whatcom WRITES invites writers of all ages and experience levels to explore a theme inspired by the Whatcom READS book each year. Top entries are selected for publication in the Whatcom WRITES anthology and contributors are invited to read at a public presentation.
The 2021 theme of RECONCILIATION, drawn from Esi Edugyan’s novel Washington Black is explored by thirty-one Whatcom writers through short story, essay, memoir, and poetry.
Whatcom READS is a county-wide program that encourages everyone to read and discuss the same book. Whatcom READS is presented by the public and academic libraries in Bellingham and Whatcom County and community partner Village Books.
