Signed First Editions Club FAQ

What is the Village Books’ Signed First Editions Club?
As a member of the VB Signed First Editions Club, you’ll receive six different newly published signed first edition fiction books over the course of one year,
selected by our qualified buyers based on literary quality and potential collectability.

What does it cost to join?
Just a one time fee of 1 dollar! That gets you registered for the club. You then just pay for the books, but not for the membership.
The list prices of the books vary a little around an average $25-30 range but members will never pay more than $30 (pre-tax). Memberships don't expire and you can cancel anytime.

How do I get my books?
When you join, you may choose between in-store pickup or having the books shipped directly to your home. If you choose in-store pickup, the books will be available at our main counter held under your last name. However, there’s absolutely no extra charge for choosing the shipping option.* We ship via media mail, but if you wish to choose a different type of shipping method there may be extra fees. Please email firsteditions@villagebooks.com with any further questions on this matter.
*Free Shipping to U.S. addresses only.

When should I expect my books?
We try to send out a book every other month, but we always try to snatch the best titles of the year so it might not always work out to be every other month. Shipping and publication date of the chosen book are also variables that affect when we are able to send them out.

Why choose the Village Books’ Signed First Editions Club?
Well, that’s a two part question.

Why a Signed First Editions Club? - Book collecting is the primary reason, but some avid readers simply enjoy receiving a novel surprise. This club helps members build their libraries with contemporary, autographed, first edition novels that we consider worth your attention. Since our selections are all recent publications, members have a chance to discover upcoming writers and literary gems before everyone else. As book lovers we’re promoting literacy investment more than monetary investment, but it’s also worth noting that first editions, especially signed ones, often increase significantly in value over time, especially when the author gains notable recognition.

Why Village Books’ club? - Village Books, founded in 1980, is immersed in the reading/publishing world, as is our staff of knowledgeable booksellers. We host over 300 authors a year and have become a literary icon in our community. Our staff reads advance copies of books months before publication and frequently meets with publishing industry representatives to discuss new publications. We know books! And we love books!
What's the big deal about signed first editions?

Primarily, book collecting. Everyone’s library is different: based upon your own interests and perceived value in certain genres, authors, bindings, etc. However, most collectors agree that the first edition of a book is the most noteworthy. If it’s signed, all the more impressive! Not all books appreciate in value, of course, but a collection of signed first editions is a wonderful addition to any library.

Can I join the VB Signed First Editions Club if I don’t live in the U.S.?
Yes! We may have to adjust shipping rates, depending on where you live. Email firsteditions@villagebooks.com for an estimate.

Can I give a membership as a gift?
Absolutely! This would be an ideal gift for the bibliophiles in your life, especially the book collecting kind, and maybe even for someone who isn’t obsessed with books…yet. Memberships don't expire and, after the $1 registration fee, you'll be charged only when we ship your recipient their book. You can cancel the gifted membership at any time.

Who chooses the selections?
Our qualified team of buyers work together to select novels based on literary quality and potential collectability. If you’re still wondering about those phrases “literary quality” and “potential collectability,” what we mean is that the book should be both a good read and something worthy of hanging onto for years to come. Our buyers are well versed in the literary world and know what factors to look for when choosing books that will enhance an individual’s library and might make a widespread impact. If you want to know more about how we choose our selections, email firsteditions@villagebooks.com.
